ZonMw has given the starting shot for 15 unique research projects into the effects of micro-and nanoplastics on our health. This is the first scientific programme in the world about the subject. A total of 1.6 million euros is being invested in the studies. - Learn how the research project Life Goes On results in a multi-domain insight into quality of life in ABI patients in long-term care facilities

This article shows that the impact of nano- and microplastics on human health is still largely unknown. Follow-up research is therefore needed because for decades, people have come into contact with the small plastic particles in their living environment via the air, water and food. These small particles vary in size from nanometres to micrometres. - Afbeelding

For the ZonMw Open Competition funding 2023, a total of 29 research teams received funding from a total budget of € 23 million. With this funding, all of the research groups can initiate innovative team science initiatives that contribute to long-term innovation within fundamental (bio)medical science and healthcare. - Afbeelding
Eleven projects by excellent research groups have been awarded a TOP grant. This will allow them to revitalise their lines of research and enter into new collaborations. They will receive up to €675,000 for research lasting at least four and no more than five years. - Afbeelding
Seventeen recently graduated scholars can do their research at foreign research institutes thanks to a Rubicon grant from NWO and ZonMw. For many researchers, experience abroad is an important step in their career. The Rubicon programme gives young, highly promising researchers the opportunity to gain international research experience. - Afbeelding
Two Dutch research groups and industry will jointly develop animal-free innovations via the ZonMw call Create2Solve. Over the next five years, the projects will focus on a 3D model of human brain cells and a better test method for potentially toxic substances. The projects will contribute to limiting the use of laboratory animals in both industry and science. - Afbeelding
In the ZonMw Open Competition round 2025, 31 research teams have been selected for a grant from a total budget of more than €26 million. This funding enables the research groups to develop innovative team science initiatives that contribute to the renewal of fundamental (bio)medical science and healthcare.
