ZonMw is offering 15 talented researchers the opportunity to do innovative research outside traditional frameworks. With a grant from the Off Road programme, they get the opportunity to further develop their out-of-the-box idea or hypothesis during one to one and a half years.

In mid-June 2021, innovative teams of researchers can once again submit project ideas for the ZonMw Open Competition. With the current pandemic situation, everybody is under a lot of pressure. Therefore, instead of 2 months, we will give applicants 4 months of preparation time to submit their project idea once the funding round has opened. The deadline for submissions is mid-October 2021.

On Wednesday December 18th from 10.30 to 11.30, ZonMw will organise an information session for the Off Road 2025 grant call. The goal of this session is to inform potential applicants about the call and subsidy process. In addition, there will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

NWO has awarded Veni funding of up to EUR 320,000 to 174 promising researchers from across the full breadth of science. This will allow the laureates to further develop their own research ideas over the next three years. - Afbeelding

The ZonMw Open Competition round 2026 will open on February 17, 2026. The deadline for submitting a pre-proposal is Thursday 2 April 2026 at 14:00 CET. After this, a decision procedure will take place, after which applicants will be invited to develop their pre-proposal into a proposal. The deadline is Tuesday 15 September 2026 at 14:00 CET.
