Join the discussion about the scientist of 2030. Is it time for a scientific revolution? Society is increasingly critical about the value and function of science. Scientists are heavily dependent on citations and 'impact factors' for recognition of their work, and they feel under huge pressure to perform and publish while at the same time juggling their other academic responsibilities. -

On 19 November, during World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, ZonMw awarded a Parel (Award) to Dr. Henk Schallig, parasitologist at Amsterdam UMC. He received the award for the RAPDIF study, which developed better tools and knowledge for tackling fever and malaria in Africa. -

In mid-June 2021, innovative teams of researchers can once again submit project ideas for the ZonMw Open Competition. With the current pandemic situation, everybody is under a lot of pressure. Therefore, instead of 2 months, we will give applicants 4 months of preparation time to submit their project idea once the funding round has opened. The deadline for submissions is mid-October 2021. -

For the first time, ZonMw and NWO have based their open access monitor on open metadata. This shows that in 2022, 93% of research financed by both funders has been published open access. This means that these publications are freely available online for anyone. Researchers from the Science (ENW), Applied and Engineering Sciences (AES) and Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) domains, as well as Health, Research and Development (ZonMw) will receive Vidi grants of up to 800,000 euro. This will enable the laureates to develop an innovative line of research over the next five years and further expand their own research group. -

The first phase of the 2023 round of Create2Solve can start with the 6 proposals selected by ZonMw to develop animal-free innovations for industry and research. The consortia will develop proof-of-concept projects for 3 of the 5 pre-formulated challenges. The project groups will have 8 months to implement their project.
