AI-assistance for GPs to find clinical answers across GP guidelines

The NHG guidelines provide GPs with recommendations on the diagnosis and treatment of common conditions. They help reduce overtreatment and undertreatment and support evidence-based care. However, increases in the number and volume of guidelines make it difficult for GPs to fully consult them in practice, especially for complex cases. AI solutions can help with this and potentially promote personalized care, by making relevant information from the guidelines quickly accessible.

Aim

This project aims to evaluate a reliable AI tool, combining an AI chatbot with a guideline-specific AI search engine, that lets GPs interact with the NHG guidelines and provides referenced answers. This system is built on technology from SWIS, a web developer specialising in digital solutions.

Approach

To investigate quality of care and educational value, evaluations of the AI tool focus on:

  • accuracy
  • reliability
  • applicability
