Control of AMR transmission by implementing auditing tools in long-term care facilities (CARLA)
Long-term care (LTC) appears to be an overlooked health care setting for prevention and control of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Clients in LTC are vulnerable to acquire resistant bacteria, and once infected, they may remain carriers for an extended period. AMR also spreads between long-term care facilities and hospitals. Therefore, LTC needs to have effective AMR and infection prevention measures in place.
LTC organizations within the regional AMR network Rezisto, developed a quality tool that assesses the organisation of infection prevention in nursing homes. Results and practices are exchanged through learning networks. As an add-on, an audit tool for cleaning was designed. However, motivation to implement the tools is limited.
Aim
This project identifies barriers and facilitators for implementation of AMR tools in LTC organizations through qualitative research in nursing homes and a scoping literature review. The findings lead to updated tools and implementation strategy.
