(De)Implementation, this is how we do it! Appropriate care for older people in the nursing home.

Aim

The aim of this project is to de-implement 3 proven unnecessary procedures in elderly care. The 4 procedures are:

  • Bladder flushing
  • Urinary sediment or dipslide
  • Single cathetherization to obtain urine
  • Use of incontinence materials (30% less and cheaper use of incontinence materials)

Approach

Care workers and educators are being trained in using the 90-day learning cycle, together with the care teams, to learn to no longer perform these procedures. The project starts with 2 elderly care facilities and will later extend to 4.

To test whether the de-implementation has succeeded, a cohort study will be conducted with pre- and post-measurement, collecting both quantitative and qualitative data. During the project a network will be established (De)Implementation, this is how we do it!, to share implementation knowledge and experiences during the project with all BSC partners.

Collaborations

This de-implementation project is being conducted by a consortium of 2 elderly care facilities (later another 4), an intermediate and higher education institution, a university and the Ben Sajet Center (BSC).

Appropriate nursing care

To encourage the implementation of appropriate care and the de-implementation of inappropriate care, we are investing in the (de-)implementation of interventions listed on the 'appropriate nursing care' lists. This project is one of them. View the other projects.
