Effectiveness of occupational therapy in persons with fatigue in progressive neurological disease
Fatigue is common in people with neurological conditions and has major impact on their daily lives. Various occupational therapy interventions support people with fatigue to gain control over their energy and to balance activities in their daily lives. However, there is still insufficient scientific evidence for these interventions.
Aim
With this project we aim to provide evidence that occupational therapy can diminish the impact of fatigue on people’s daily life.
Approach
This project studies the cost-effectiveness of the combination of two occupational therapy interventions in primary care:
- The Activity Calculator, which provides insight into the self-perceived energy cost or gain of a person’s activities.
- The Packer Managing Fatigue program which provides strategies to balance the energy cost and gain.
This study compares people with fatigue due to a neurological condition who receive occupational therapy (intervention group) with a similar group on a waiting list (control group).
