Evidence-informed, easy-to-measure, actionable feedback on quality of hospital antibiotic use
In Dutch hospitals, antibiotic teams ensure that antibiotics are used appropriately. They ensure that patients do not suffer unnecessary side effects and complications, costs are curbed, and the efficacy of antibiotics is preserved. Research shows that providing information about the quality of antibiotic use can increase the effectiveness of the teams' activities. This information about the quality of antibiotic use is called feedback.
Aim
In this project, researchers will develop feedback that stimulates improvement. They will develop the feedback together with prescribers and envisioned providers of the feedback, the SWAB. Everything they know from research about effective feedback will be applied in that development process. What is innovative is that they are developing metrics for measuring the quality of antibiotic use that do not place an additional administrative burden on prescribers and are relatively easy to calculate.
Expected results
The researchers expect to develop effective feedback to improve both the quantity and quality of antibiotic use and reduce antibiotic resistance in hospitals.
