A healthcare trajector for people with atopic dermatitis in primary care
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by dry itchy eczematous lesions with severe symptoms as intense erythema, exudation and blistering. AD is associated with dramatic lower quality of life (QoL), intense itching is the most debilitating symptom.
Objective and study design
In this project, we co-create a change package to investigate, test, improve and implement a healthcare trajectory program for AD in primary care, with a central role for the dermal therapist in guiding AD patients and care givers of children with AD to be able to control the skin disease themselves thereby improving the QoL of AD patients and care givers. Introducing selfmanagement with clear information and guidance at an early stage of AD can strongly improve QoL of the patients and help to educate patients in using medication for disease control. The dermal therapist can address above needs as a well-equipped skin expert in primary care by providing tailored advice and guidance to patients.
