Implementation of a community-based detection and referral network for gambling harm
Harm from gambling has far-reaching consequences for individuals, families and communities. The Netherlands does not have a system for early identification and referral, especially in social and primary care settings. Professionals often lack knowledge and resources, resulting in gambling harm being recognized or referred too late.
Goal
The project brings together a network of professionals in Rotterdam to identify gambling harm early and improve access to care.
Approach
Research partners
The consortium combines scientific and professional expertise, lived experience, and local community knowledge. Its members represent key roles in Rotterdam's gambling harm detection and referral network, covering the expertise needed for project implementation. Stakeholders include Erasmus University Rotterdam, Rotterdam Municipality, Antes Zorg (mental and addiction care), and Rijnmond Dokters (primary care).
Expected results
A functional network, better tools and improved care access to reduce gambling harm in Rotterdam.
