INNOVATE: iINNOvative Continuous monitoring of VitAl signs
The measurement of vital signs (VS) in hospitals is crucial for assessing the clinical condition and detection of patient deterioration. Appropriate care is required: delay in recognizing and treating complications can lead to clinical decline, admission to the intensive care unit (ICU), prolonged hospital stays, and even death. Currently, hospitals assess clinical status manually, three times a day.
Aim
Continuous monitoring (CM) of VS provides earlier insight into changes in the patient's condition. By linking CM with Continuous Scoring (CS), information can be interpreted better, thereby increasing sensitivity for detecting deterioration.
Approach
CM is still used to a limited extent, and practices vary. Furthermore, the appropriate use of measurement data through CS is lacking. The objective of this project is to gain insight into providing appropriate nursing care by optimally and safely applying CM and CS in the daily workflows on nursing wards.
