MOMENTUM 3.0

The use of plastic materials can lead to the release of micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) into the environment. Building on previous work, MOMENTUM 3.0 brings together researchers from universities, academic hospitals, research organisations and companies to advance understanding of MNPs and human health.

Goal

The project will develop a risk assessment framework that integrates particle characteristics, plastic-associated chemicals and microbial hazards, with a focus on indoor air exposure. New insights into effects on the lungs and brain, microbial risks of MNP-pathogen complexes, and the effectiveness of interventions to reduce exposures will all be incorporated into this framework. By strengthening the MOMENTUM network, the project will foster collaboration with multiple stakeholders and knowledge transfer to support evidence-based strategies that protect human health.
