OPTImising dietary treatment by MeasurIng body compoSition and function for malnutrition/sarcopEnia

Malnutrition and sarcopenia are inadequately diagnosed and treated during the transmural patient journey, resulting in inadequate appropriate dietary treatment of malnutrition and sarcopenia.

Aim

This project (OPTIMISE) focuses on better diagnosis of malnutrition and sarcopenia and providing a more personalized dietary treatment in patients with cancer, lung disease and/or chronic heart disease, by optimizing transmural nutritional assessment (NA) in dietetic practice. The project aims to make nutritional assessment more accessible, so that also other patient groups can benefit more from personalized dietary treatments

Approach

Therefore, in co-creation with patients and dietitians, a transmural NA-working method will be developed and tested in daily practice by dietitians in these patients.

Expected results

The expected impact includes improved nutritional status and functioning, quality of care, job satisfaction by dietitians and cost control, resulting in efficient, affordable nutritional care close to home.
