Raising Awareness & Addressing Stigma: Developing communication to enhance youngsters' care uptake
Many young gamblers are not aware of their need for help and of the different care options. Therefore, raising such awareness is imperative.
Objective
The proposed project will develop and test communication campaigns that aim to enhance young people’s awareness of care and their needs for care, and address stigma. With these evidence-based campaigns and a theoretical model, we deliver concrete communication tools that can enhance uptake into care.
Approach
We will use focus groups, co-creation workshops, experiments and a campaign implementation phase. In each subproject, we work closely with people with lived experience in the roles of advisors, co-creators, discussion partners, informants and implementation partners.
Research partners
This project is a collaborative effort between Dutch scholars in the field of persuasive health- and marketing communication as well as renowned international scholars specialized in communication about gambling harms, and Hands, the organization that is currently in charge of the Loket Kansspel.
Expected results
We will develop, test and implement evidence-based social media communication together with people from the target group. This will make care more accessible and enhance uptake into care for young people who experience gambling harms.
