Diversiteit en volwaardig partnerschap in hulpverlening aan kinderen en jeugdigen met CMB en hun communicatiepartners
With children with Complex Communication needs (CCN), parents play a central role in implementing interventions. To help parents, social workers must have knowledge of parents' culture, lifeworld and perceptions. This prevents interventions from not meeting the needs of the families they are assisting. To prevent or solve problems, this project has written a guide on culturally sensitive care when helping children with CCN. The guide is intended for social workers, teachers and other professionals working with children with CCN and their parents. The aim is to give care providers tools to bridge differences in culture, living environment and perceptions of clients, communication partners and themselves. The guide starts with an analysis of the literature. This is followed by the results of interviews and focus groups. After this background information recommendations are provided. First, general recommendations are given. This is followed by recommendations for research and diagnostics, treatment and counselling. The guide ends with recommendations for implementing communication aids.
