Personalized Risk & Prognosis Assessment for InflaMmatory Arthritis in Primary Care (PRIMA4PC)

Joint complaints are common in general practice. Patients often wonder whether they have ‘rheumatoid arthritis.’ Early recognition of rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, is crucial for a favorable disease course. However, general practitioners currently lack a reliable method to detect or rule out joint inflammation, which can lead to unnecessary referrals and treatment delay for patients.

Aim

This project develops a new approach to help general practitioners better identify and exclude joint inflammation. The goal is to refer the right patients more quickly while avoiding unnecessary referrals. This will improve care for people with joint complaints and help keep waiting times short.

Approach

We combine an existing decision rule (CARE tool) with a fast and affordable MRI scan and artificial intelligence (AI) for automatic assessment. In a study with 400 patients, we will test how accurate and practical this method is.

Features

Elderly Medicine Research

To meet the changing care demand in the future, we need to improve the quality of elderly medicine. We therefore support academicization by funding PhD research projects for elderly medicine physicians training to become clinical researchers, and leave them with an abiding interest in research.
